Our Principles

These are CAALAS’ guiding principles which steer and direct us, and by which we will abide.  They underpin the work that we do and guide our work, the establishment and implementation of our strategic goals.

  • Respect - We will not lose sight of our clients’ right to be treated with dignity and respect.  We will work with respect with our colleagues and stakeholders.  Recognising and valuing diversity, we respect all people and value each person’s contributions.
  • Integrity - We will always do what is right for the right reasons.  We will act with honesty and integrity, not compromising the truth.
  • Accountability &Transparency - We will be accountable and transparent with our clients, each other and our stakeholders - in our service delivery and decision making. We will promote an environment that is free from self interest and prejudice.
  • Empowerment - We commit to working to give our clients and communities the ability to make informed decisions and choices.  We will work to improve our workplace culture and performance by dealing with things that impede us. We will make every effort to excel as individuals and teams so that we can deliver a quality legal service to our client and our communities.
  • Cultural Security - We recognise that our First Nations People are the most disadvantaged group in the country, presenting with the highest rates of incarceration and representation in the justice system.  We will work to have a more respectful and responsive justice system that always talks into account, the cultural rights and values of First Nations People of Central Australia.
  • Equality - As an organisation, we will excel in ensuring that fairness, non-discrimination, equal rights and egalitarianism are conscientiously followed internally and externally in all aspects of our work.
  • Justice - As an organisation we will consistently strive for a just society where our First Nations People receive fair and impartial treatment.  We will represent our clients with integrity, ensuring they receive the highest quality of legal representation at all times.
  • Professionalism - We understand the importance of our jobs and the work we do.  We respect ourselves and our organisation, dealing with issues with honesty and integrity.
